Autism Diagnosis Services Now Offered At Alpine Learning Group

Alpine Learning Group, New Jersey’s Premier Autism Center located in Paramus, now offers autism diagnosis services through their Center for Autism. The new service is part of the expanded array of clinical services now offered to the community. If parents or health providers suspect that a child may have autism spectrum disorder, the child should receive a comprehensive evaluation from a professional trained in autism diagnosis.

The diagnostic evaluation involves a number of assessments to ensure a comprehensive evaluation. One of the diagnostic instruments used is the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule). The ADOS test features different modules to accommodate a range of ages and verbal skills– with versions appropriate for toddlers through adults. The purpose of the ADOS is to evaluate the social, communication, and play skills the child displays during the assessment, as well as any restrictive or repetitive behavior. This means the evaluator is paying attention to things such as if the child makes eye contact, responds to facial expressions, asks for help, shares enjoyment, plays appropriately with toys, gives other people a chance to speak, and follows along with changes of subject.

Dr. Bridget A. Taylor, Co-founder and Executive Director of Alpine Learning Group, and expert in the field of autism with over 30 years of experience, is one of the experts currently providing diagnostic services at Alpine Learning Group. “Early diagnosis and intervention is critically important for children with autism,” says Taylor. “We often hear concerns from families about the extensive wait to access diagnostic services - requiring them to travel outside of Bergen County. We identified an opportunity to eliminate those barriers for families and use our clinical expertise to identify children as young as possible, and to assist families in accessing services at the point of diagnosis.”

Alpine Learning Group is Bergen County's comprehensive resource for families living with autism. We offer a full range of diagnostic and clinical services, along with established programs in education, in-home treatment, and adult services.
